Fostering Musical Variety
At Linden High School, you can rest assured that your child will obtain a quality music education in a program that is known for being a class act. They will be challenged during the school day with difficult literature and have the opportunity to participate in many after school, extra curricular ensembles.
Below are some descriptions of each ensemble and what a student can expect.

Concert Band
The concert band is the entry level band at the high school. This ensemble is usually comprised of 9th-10th grade students and older or advanced students playing on secondary instruments. This class is important because all of the major fundamentals used in the high school instrumental program are taught and reinforced in this band. This class offers musicians the opportunity to improve themselves and enjoy a quality musical education.
Wind Ensemble
This is the premier musical ensemble at Linden High School. Students are selected to be in this ensemble through an audition process determined by the director. Because there may be limited openings in each section, it can be very competitive to make it into this group.
The wind ensemble plays college level literature and is for the student who is fluent as both an instrumentalist and a musician. Students should know all major scales, two octave chromatic scales, participate in solo and ensemble, and most students in this group seek private instruction from a professional. The rigor in which music is learned is quite impressive, and students are expected to perform at the highest level possible. Enrollment in this group is not limited to a particular grade level. However, each student is expected to practice their part and be able to perform it at a high level of achievement. Younger students who have had private instruction usually do well in this course.

Marching Band
The Linden Eagles Marching Band is comprised of 8th-12th grade students. Color guard, Drumline, Front Ensemble and Winds are the primary sections of the marching band. You do not need to be enrolled in a band in order to participate in the color guard.
The LEMB performs at a very high level with a high demand physically, mentally and emotionally. Students are expected to be at all rehearsals and to hold themselves to the highest standards musically and academically. The music and drill are both custom arranged and the students have the opportunity to work with high quality instructors within their sections. Many of our students have participated in Drum Corps International after participating in this program!

Winter Guard
The Linden “Wings” Winter Guard is a highly artistic activity that uses equipment such as flags, sabers, and rifles to add visual interpretation to musical selections. The program is available to all students in 8-12 grades. It is not necessary to be a member of any of the bands to participate! However, most members of the marching band color guard also join winter guard to stay on top of their skills. Dance experience is a plus, but not required.
